I'm no expert on this subject, but I can speak from experience that a smaller venue isn't a bad idea for a live show. I've rodied for a band over the past year who has played some of the smallest venues I've ever seen before. I'll admit that it was tough to get some of their equipent in and set up properly, but we all managed to do our jobs. I also think that if you book a smaller place and some people end up turned away do to there not being enough room that the bigger places will take notice. That is if they want to make money.
Like I said though, I'm no expert. I just had to put in my two cents and try to shed some light on a dark place.
