Dying Embers

Dying embers

Away across the swirl of time, beyond what we recall,
Within a stranger shore than ours, under other stars,
Two strangers met and found a bond that held them
Joining their souls as one, melding hearts and minds.

All they said and felt from then was all of one design,
Always in each others thoughts, always of one mind.
Moving through that different world, together for that time.
Each moment had a purpose, a reason and a rhyme.

But as their bodies weakened, and time did take its toll,
This passion deep inside them still burned as at the first.
The glow shone through their smiling eyes, gleaming
As they guided each other�s faltering steps onwards.

Time, as it will, took their bodies away, kindly at the last.
There you�d think the story would end, buried in the past.
But passion in the souls burned on like a furnace blast
With both souls going different ways, their union passed.

Eons passed by, the souls drift on in that endless search
To find a host in which to dwell, to colour another life.
As they drift the fires grow dim, as hope begins to fade,
But never fully die away, glowing embers still remain.

Each by each, in separate ways, they find another home,
No longer lost and aimless, or condemned to roam.
Cradled in a new born soul which they can make their own
No longer without purpose, no longer there alone.

Each soul now in a different place, of each other unaware.
A shadow in another�s essence, secretly pointing the way.
Allowing this fresh soul to seek out its new destiny
Until it needs to know of this other self within.

By chance these strangers meet, a distant memory rings,
Only in the background these distant shadows sing.
All is still too distant, a remote forgotten thing,
An echo of a time gone by, waiting in the wings.

Time goes by, new light dawns upon this helpless pair,
They start to find there are things they cannot explain.
Confused, they try to live their life, as if all was the same,
But deep inside those embers glowed - knowing why.

Embers now both fanned by love have blossomed into flame,
No more confused, a vision clear, nothing can be the same,
These souls awakened point the way and made it all too plain
That this was no reunion, but two souls made one again.

The story will move on from there, of that we can be sure,
Which path it takes, and how it ends, I can tell no more.
But one thing can be certain, as they pass that final door,
The coals of love will still burn on, the journey starts once more
