I have never found much difficulty in training male vs female. You do, however, sometimes find an individual pup which may have a short attention span that may be more difficult to train, or a very dominant one etc. Choose a pup (male or female) which is friendly, outgoing, amenable to human interaction, and not the one which is trying to boss his/her brothers and sisters ALL THE TIME instead of wanting to play with you!

Your pup at 8 weeks, when it leaves the litter, should be 90% housetrained (if it comes from a reputable breeder who put in the time and effort to do some housetraining!), meaning that you will just have to continue the consistent regime already started by the breeder. You will be neutering the male pup at age 6 months (just as it starts to want to lift it's leg!) so there shouldn't be a problem with housetraining as your pup will be fully housetrained by then. You will forestall any "lifting it's leg inside the house" problems by neutering before it is sexually mature.
