Subject: Collateral, Bourne Supremacy, Manchurian Candidate and Some Kind of Monster quickies

Saw Bourne Supremacy in the last week and loved them both. Supremacy easily picks up where Bourne Identity left off. Both Bournes were so smart and classy action flicks. I love the lack of special effects in these films. It's just good, realistic action. Who would have thought that Matty could be such a hard ass?

Collateral is also spectacular. I, for one, thought Jamie Foxx stole the film out from under Cruise and that was hard to do because Cruise was on fire in the film. He's an awesome heavy and it's nice to see him do a role so out of the ordinary for him. I personally dug him as the villain and I became more agitated with him and his character as the film progressed. When it came down to the inevitable showdown between he and Foxx, I was pumped for it. Excellent build-up and top notch acting. Michael Mann is one helluva director.

Manchurian Candidate was...odd. I still don't know how I feel about it. It's one to see and debate over. I did like the theme to the film, as it was very timely. Overall, I found it a bit hokey, though. See it and discuss.

Metallica: Some Kind of Monster was suprisingly great. I am not a Metallica fan but I do LOVE to watch bands fight onscreen. And these guys fight over pretty much everything. Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield have two of the biggest egos I have ever seen so it's fun to watch them throw down with each other. At first I thought that it was going to be weak because of the live-in band therapist but soon I found out that he was definitely needed. Without him, the band would have quickly disintegrated. It was also interesting watching them pick out a new bassist and then how they worked him into the band's contract. I mean, he got a million dollar signing bonus! It's like he just signed with the Yankees or something. An awesome rock documentary and well worth checking out.
