I agree with your comments regarding the performances of both Cruise and Foxx. Tom Cruise I know can act, but it seems to take a decent director to motivate him. Foxx was a total surprise; the few dramatic roles I've seen him in have been pretty minor, and in films I didn't much care for (Ali, for example). He was great in Collateral, and his reactions to the various horrible things happening around him were dead on believable.

The twist towards the end of the movie, though, is pretty bad. For the first 80% of the film I was totally engrossed, and then the script just kind of goes into Action Thriller Cliche mode for the last 20 minutes, which was a bit disappointing.
