The Catholicism he subscribes to is very old fashioned and extreme. the preference for the latin mass is one indicator and my gues is thats one of his reasons for having Latin used in the film.

Thats not to say he isn't being an opportunist like you say and as just as intent on the business side of the film as the religious. But knowing people who follow his form of catholicism, they are fanatical and I'd believe him if he said this was the 'Passion of the Mal', but its no coincidence he has interwoven lots of commercial 'hooks' to get people along.

The supposed violence, which has many people talking (and puts me off BTW) is not really in the Bible. Yes those things happened, but you don't get the bloody detail he seems to have taken licence to create. Why? How does he know it was like that? He doesn't is my answer.

I still havent seen the Last Temptation because people said it was boring, even though I've seen every other Scorcese film. While the hoopla over it drew attention to it, it also drew attention to its poorer qualities. Same with 'Passion of the Christ' for me, given I have limited opportunities to go to the cinema, I don't thinkI'll waste a visit on this.

Margaret and David on the Movie Show gave it 2 and 1.5 stars respectively, The Age gave it 2 stars. I wonder what the regular film goer will think?
