Subject: The Hitcher...and The Hitcher II??

Who's seen The Hitcher, a shlock classic starring Rutger Hauer and C.Thomas Howell? It's a great little flick.

Today, while at the Video Library I saw the tape for...The Hitcher II. It starred C.Thomas Howell (whose career has really come on in leaps and bounds since Soul Man), Kari Wuhrer (which means there'll be nudity), and playing the psyco (presumably) none other than Gary Busey.

I read the blurb, and apparently C.Thomas Howell's character still suffers from that fateful night, and with the intention of confronting it, revisits that same stretch of road.

That's the blurb.

I assume he picks up Gary Busey, who turns out to be a psycho, and they go through the same old shit. (A good movie would be if they pick up Gary Busey and he's ultimately victimized by C.Thomas Howell's increasing paranoia - but you wouldn't cast Kari Wuhrer in a flick like that).

Anyway, how unlucky is C.Thomas Howell's character?

I remarked that to the guy who runs the Video Store, and he threw back Bruce Willis in the Die Hards as another example...but the thing is Willis's John McClane is a cop. Okay, the circumstances might be extraordinary, but that's his job to deal with baddies. (And you can strike the coincidence of Die Hard III, actually, since his character was specifically requested).

Would C.Thomas Howell's character have to be the unluckiest bastard to be driving the interstate?
