Bryan:

Thank you for your response to my original post. I have been there, done that, as a board member and do not envy any of your positions. However, the total and permanent removal of the basketball courts seems to have come out of nowhere this year. I know that the basketball and parking area has been a source of some homeowner concern for many years. But I have reviewed the board minutes going back to October 2008, up to the August 2009 minutes. Only in July 2009 did a homeowner complain to the board about the basketball/parking area. I think the board's action was drastic if they are trying to placate one or two homeowners.

The October 2008-present minutes also dealt with, what appears to be, one homeowner's complaint about portable basketball goals and the dangers they pose when kids are playing basketball in the streets. There were also issues as to whether these goals in the fronts of houses violates covenants. After an initial reaction by the board to send letters to violating homeowners (of which there are many who have portable goals in front of their homes), the board instead agreed to have a covenant review committee formed.

See where I'm going? I hope the board has truly done what is best for the majority of homeowners.
