After reading & paraphrasing Sonnet 130 on your own,
explain the following:

1. Explain the couplet at the end of this sonnet. How
does it alter the meaning of the sonnet?

Throughout the entire sonnet up until this point, he's describing all of her imperfections and overexaggerating them to a point to make her sounds horrible and ugly. In the couplet at the end however, he basicly says that despite all of these imperfections, he loves her more than most people know and that's all that matters.

2. How does Shakespeare mock aspects of the
traditional sonnet in Sonnet 130?

If you've read a lot of sonnets, you'll notice that most are about love. This one is also about love but it is different because most sonnets describe a perfect love for a perfect person and in the sonnet, the writer usually writes everything that's incredible about this particular person. In this poem, however, Shakespeare describes everything that is imperfect about his lover and then says that despite all of these horrible things, he still loves her.
