The reader can tell Shakespeare wrote this one taking place in winter for several reasons. He talks about the leaves being yellow and few if any. Then he says how the birds are hibernating and cold winds are blowing. The time and season are mirroring the emotion. This poem takes place in winter because the birds are hibernating and since everything is quiet and still and no one is there it shows how he feels alone in the world and winter also was good for this one because death is cold and so is winter. The time of the poem is at night which also contributes to the being alone part.
