Communicating An Opinion
Elsie Wayne, MP
Scott Brison, MP
Rt. Hon. Joe Clark, MP, PC
Bruck Easton, President, PCPC
In the headlines today, "PC deputy leader to gays: 'Shut up'"
In the House of Commons, PC Deputy Leader Elsie Wayne said:
"There is not any need for this nonsense whatsoever and we should not have to tolerate it [same sex marriages, gay pride parades, floats, drag queens, debating] in Canada."
"It is just to get attention. Instead of getting attention, it is better for them to live their lifestyle quietly," she told the National Post.
Clearly its in the interest of the broad Canadian family that Mrs. Wayne should live her own 'lifestyle quietly', and remember two core principles of our party, stated quite simply in our constitution:
3.1.2 A belief in the equality of all Canadians;
3.1.3 A belief in the freedoms of the individual, including freedom of speech, worship and assembly;
Mrs. Wayne has shown Canadians disrespect, and this has only served to undermine her credibility, takes away from the many good works she has done, and paints our party unfairly in a most negative light in the eyes of most Canadians.
Canadians demand not mere "tolerance" from our political leaders, but also that they defend the rights of *all* our citizens, rather than support only those who live their lives exactly as they do.
With all due respect,
Michael Watkins
