i don't really give a damn about 'america's main priority'

ofcourse not, there was no cause whatsoever, you can't just bomb the shit out of a country because you have a "hunch" that they are going to invade someone else.

It didnt stop him from

dude, the UN didn't even exist until after ww2.

Wasnt really a strong UN back then but the

we have more of a clue about asteroids then about missile threaths you know. the problem with the asteroids is that we don't have as much a clue as we want, right now, if an asteroid would hit us, we might not know until an hour in advance, and that does not give us enough time to avoid collision. a missile impact might at best destroy a city, an asteroid impact might at WORST destroy a city. at best, the planet.

a laser wouldn't be effective against an asteroid anyway, contrary to what you might believe, but lasers really aren't effective as weapons (technically, they can't even BE called weapons), a simple nuclear blast near (not on) the asteroid when it's still relatively far away from earth would change it's trajectory enough so that it would miss the earth completely, the UN would naturally be willing to make an exception for space weapons were there to be an asteroid threath.
