Subject: beautiful music again?

I wish the beautiful music format would come back. I really believe it would be possible if it were updated more for today...playing newer, more upbeat instrumentals mixed in with other types of "light" music that's popular today (chill, contemporary instrumentals, smooth jazz, etc) that appeals to some of the younger folks without compromising some of the sound of the original format. We have to change the way most people feel about beautiful music, also. It's most always viewed in a negative light, as being "elevator music" and "muzak", and that the music is "boring" and "sleepy". We need to demonstrate that beautiful music is relaxing, it's a break from the hectic world we live in, but it's something we should actively listen to and it's not something that should just "fade into the background". It's something that's exciting and different to listen to than what's currently being offered on the radio. There HAS to be somebody listening to beautiful music, obviously, because the format wouldn't be on satellite radio with its many followers if the format had "died"; some of thse subscribers wouldn't even bother to subscribe to satellite radio if beautiful music wasn't offered.

Part of the problem with the format's decline is due to the fact that many of the record companies stopped making instrumental music several years ago, and stations were left with no new material to offer. That's changing, though. I found some CD's on amazon.com by the Ray Hamilton Orchestra. Hadn't ever heard of this one, but the release date for the CDs was March, 2006, and there are LOTS of these. Has a more uptempo sound to it, with several recordings of instrumental music for pop hits even up into the 90's. Check it out if you get a chance. It's well worth the time and money you'll spend. :)
