The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village sound really interesting.

You're right, Rose, some people just aren't property exposed to history. Jean and I had the experience of going on a walk with a Park Ranger though Minuteman National Historical Park. While on the walk there was a young woman (probably 12-14 years old) and her father. They were discussing history and both of them were so far off the mark it was sad. The daughter actually had no use for history and made not bones about the rest of knowing that. The father was stating that the site we were walking to was an historic battle in the Civil War. Hello, there were no Civil War battles fought in Massachusetts. To make it even worse, we were walking to the Paul Revere captue site in Lincoln, MA. No really the site of a battle (although the battle did go past it the next day).

We also had the experience while in Washington of listening to a teacher give a "history" lesson at the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial. She informed her students that the Vietnam War was the first declared war where soldiers knew it was wrong to kill someone. Correct me if I'm wrong but a) Vietnam was not a declared war, and b) haven't soliders always known there was something morally wrong with killing.

Makes me wonder what's going to happen to our youth when those entrusted to teach them history are so woefully lacking themselves.

Sorry - seem to have gotten up on a soapbox there. Better give me a spritz of that seltzer as well as the pie in the face.

Julia
