Date Posted: 06:15:38 02/10/03 Mon Hi Sabre--on the 5/11/2002 Setec of Finland, acquired the right to manufacture and market smartcards based on Proton previously to that in February of 2001 -- Datacard USA. who is a current Proton vendor, joined with Total System Services,Inc.to collaborate World's First Implementation of Global Platform Card Configurator and Script Builder Process, which is the new Smart Card Infrastructure used to Issue Visa Smart Debit/Credit Cards, Total System Services, Inc.began issuing Visa Smart Debit/Credit (VSDC) cards for Providian Bank of San Francisco, one of the first U.S. financial institutions to issue smart cards. Total Systems Inc worked closely with Proton vendor Datacard U.S.A.for several months before that, to prepare for the program. ------------------------------- Global Platform stated this on the 27/1/2001"The Open Platform card and terminal specifications are the first open standards, adopted by Global Platform and will provide a solid foundation, from which the organization will define the future of multiple application smart cards."on the 23 of October 2001 Global Platform announced two specifications which make the creation of multi application smartcards, as easy and transparent to card issuers as installing off-the-shelf software on PC platforms, they define standardised processes to evolve multiple application smart cards throughout the card lifecycle.
