"W-well... Um, let's go guys. We still need to find the others, you know," Rikku stammered after Shep had finally calmed down.
"Yeah," Kiana agreed. "We can't just stay here forever." Her eyes scanned the horizon, looking for a sign...
"Where are we going to go then, hm?" Tidus asked in that annoying way of his. "I don't see any road signs saying, 'To find your missing comrades, go this way.'"
Rikku shot him a dirty look. "Shut up, Tidus. We're still deciding."
"I think we should go..."
--
Areo was watching. "No, no!" she screeched when Kiana pointed towards the right path. "This can't be," she muttered. "They can't just....The can't beat me!"
A cackle burst from her throat. "But of course... of course! It would be so simple, and it would tear them apart even more. Ooh, you are the crafty one, Areo."
She waved her hand over the wooden bowl and the image abrubtly changed into a close-up of Zidane. "Yes... he would want to fight it, wouldn't he?" She was about to change the scene back to the others when she noticed something in the background, coming closer. "They're coming to help him! Of course... But where is Auron?" She cursed again. "He knows... he has to know. Oh, damn that Auron. He'll pay for this."
Areo snapped her fingers, and all of the people disappeared from the scene with a blinding flash. The monster scuttled towards Auron.
"Let's see how you can do this... alone."
--
Auron stared horrified at the creature. It was even more gut-renching up close. "Areo," he spat. It couldn't be from anyone else but her. He stood with his blade ready.
The creature snapped its pinchers at Auron. He dodged them with lightning-quick reflexes. He tried to concentrate, but couldn't. Something was bothering him... He couldn't let something small distract him... it would make this duel his last...
Areo... why now? he thought desperately. Of course, she doesn't care when... just as long as it tears people as much as is possibly can. But why does she just need to settle her score with me here? Now?
He took a deep breath, hoping it would clear his thoughts, but they swirled around ever more. "This is for the fallen!" he snarled, and slashed at the monster...
---
"Auron?" a voice whispered. "Auron? Are you awake?"
Auron groaned. He didn't want to get up yet...
"Wake up!"
He slowly opened his eyes. He looked around the small room. Why did it seem so familiar? Then he saw the person next to him, and nearly passed out again...
