I can only make usggestions based on the plants I know about but I would suggest putting taller plants at the back, such as Hollyhocks and Foxgloves, or perhaps more unconventional plants such as Woad, Fennel or Angelica which grow to about 6 ft or so high. Then gradually cascading down in front of them with such plants as Purple Loosestrife, Vervain, Sweet Rocket (although this could also go at the back and any other plants that grow to about 3 ft or so, and then putting in the front plants that will provide a neat edge, such as Rosemary,Lavender, Jacob's Ladder or Perennial Candytuft, or small clumps of annuals such as nemophilia or Painted Sage. If you do it soon, you could also sow loads of annuals in the gaps, such as Poppies, cornflowers, corncockle, to create swathes of colour. Check out the plants on our website and go through picking out plants that you could use by height and then visualising them either planted in clumps of four or five or dotted around individually. Personally I prefer to see loads of different plants all flowering in different colours and heights. It also looks effective to plant taller plants amongst the smaller ones, such as Verbena, so that their long stems appear above the other plants. If I can help any more please e-mail. Hope I've helped a bit!
