I get your meaning about the word 'EMO' but seemingly there is a basic need for short buzz words to distinguish one type of music from another - just in the way music is bracketed as being 'PUNK' or 'POP' or 'METAL' or 'SKA' or 'HARDCORE'. It is just easier i guess to call a band like The Get Up Kids EMO rather than PUNK or ROCK.
But every kind of music evokes emotion so in a sense Rancid, Freaks Union, t.A.T.u (you left out the dots Will) are EMO. t.A.T.u are Emo because they hold hands and kiss on stage and everything and show their love for each other.

Furthermore why are certain bands like Hot Water Music etc described as POST HARDCORE? when they are to my way of thinking less hardcore than HARDCORE bands like Sick of it All, Agnostic Front etc.

Every living creature has emotions - so isn't every kid really an emo kid? and every rat and emo rat? This reminds me - this forum needs Emotion icons!!!

Your Pet Hate thing is good, Will. But why are they called Pet Hates when more often or not they are nothing to do with pets at all? Misappropriately called things is one of my PET HATES. Anyway what are other peoples Pet Hates? and don't say clever things like Transplants, because without Transplants a lot of people would die. Transplants save lives! hehe.
