Damn those crazy dots! Thing is though, pretty much any emo band you care to mention can be described without using the dreaded "e" word. For example, The Get Up Kids (who I like lots, incidentally) could equally be called guitar pop. (I don't use the word "pop" in a derogatory sense - The Get Up Kids write some damn fine pop songs!) Saves the Day could be called pop punk... And so on.

The Post Hardcore thing I think originated with bands like Fugazi, who came from a more traditional Hardcore background (Minor Threat, Rites of Spring etc) and fused the heartfelt lyrics and emotion (see! It's the whole emo thing again!) with more complex, slower music, with more diverse influences (Jazz, Blues etc). Hence Post Hardcore is a progression from Hardcore, so to speak. But then again, depending who you ask, I've heard Hot Water Music described as Punk Rock, Post Hardcore, Melodic Hardcore, Emo, and just a damn fine band. I tend to stick to the last one.

I personally think there's too much sub-labelling of genre's. That could be a pet hate. I like to think of pet hates as special little hates that we nurture and feed over the years, helping them to grow and blossom into the righteous anger we vent on forums.
