Subject: Nail trauma

Hello, I am a licensed Nail Tech and salon owner into my second year and I have a male client who got attacked by a dog last year. Some of his finger got torn up and the finger nails that are growing in now are having troble coming up due to the skin on the top of his fingers is pushing into the free edge of the nails. This area at the top becomes sore and he feels the need to keep the nail trimmed very short. Also on the side of the nail bed on one finger there are small layers of freyed skin that just bother him and he tends to pull and pick at them. Almost like several
hang nails together in a bunch. I suspect there was damage to the matrix and the nails just arent growing the way they should. I didnt want to trim them for fear they would cause and infection and we should never cut near the cuticles. What do you recommend? His nails are very brittle and dry so I gave him a parafin/manicure and told him to use cuticle oil 3 x a day and to see if that would help the free edge area
become softer so the nails could come over the skin possibly. Any advise or info would be greatly appreciated. Rachel
