Use the gloss coat over acrylics when you want to go natural (such as P&W's) and don't want to use a 3 way to get that shine.

If you plan on polishing anyway, then I feel it is a lot of extra work for not much benefit.

Yes, it (gel) does have to be filed off to remove it, even gloss coat gels over acrylics. All shine needs to be removed from the nail; neither gel or acrylics will "stick" to a shiny non-porous surface.

Basically, you file the whole nail when you rebalance the nail during a fill anyway, so you don't have to file it off separately first, just file it off during the normal prep filing for your fill. (ie, don't file it off first---like removing polish---and then go back and do your rebalance filing, that wastes time! Do it all at one time as one procedure, not as 2 separate ones!)

PS, thanks for your nice complements about my site. I am constantly updating and revising it! ---Barb! :-)
