Chapter Three

Onyx Flameclaw looked at the scouts Dharku had sent her. They were lean weasel brothers, not an inch of flesh to spare on their sinewy frames. "You two, what are your names?" she asked in a friendly tone. " Ah am Dipsnout, an' dis issa mah brotha Crinktail." said the shorter of the two. "Well, Crinktail and Dipsnout, I have a job for you." She handed Crinktail a bamboo cylinder. "Inside here is a map. Follow the directions and eventually you will arrive at Redwall. I need to know how many beasts inhabit the Abbey and the woodlands around it. I need to know how many vittles they 'ave. I need to know if they are trained in weapons and if they have any." She handed each of them a small sack."Do me well, and there will be much more of this. Fail me and you'll find out what it feels like to be skinned alive!" She cackled maniacally and then barked: "GO!!" The weasels broke off at a run.

The next morning, Dharku serveyed a wild scene. Rats were packing weapons and stoats were hurridly getting all they're plundered booty together. He smiled evily, this would all be his, as soon as he got Onyx Flameclaw and her ever-loyal captains out of the way.
