Subject: Return from Italy

Hello travellin' girls:
I thought that I would let you know that Loyd and I are now back from our Italian vacation and we had a wonderful time. It was very hot, up in the high 30's most days, which was very unusual for Italy in June. Venice was amazing with wonderful architecture and no cars. One can get very lost zigzagging through the city over hundreds of canals. In Ravenna we visited some police women that Loyd had met on the ferries a few years ago and they were great hosts. They took us out and were lots of fun to be with. Ravenna is also home to the most beautiful Byzantime mosaics from the 5th C. and I would have to say that out of all the art we saw they impressed me the most. We then spent one week at a grain farm near Siena which gave us the opportunity to visit many little hill villages with long histories, then we spent one week in Chianti on a farm that was a winery where the scenery was gorgeous (and the wine wasn't bad either!). Luckily we had an air conditioned car and lovely swimming pools at both of these places because as I said it was HOT. Anyway, we'll have to get together and share our photos and adventures in the Fall. Kelsey is preparing to attend Vancouver Vocational Institute and take a 10 month course as a Dental Assistant. Erik has applied to both UBC and Langara, and he has decided that he is switching to Arts from Sciences. He seems to want to do an English major. Loyd and I are just back at work wishing we were still on holiday. When we get together we'll have lots of photos and stories to share. We really enjoy reading about your adventures. Take care and have a wonderful July and August, Love from Cathy (and Loyd, Kelsey and Erik)
