Especially since I think I am the only person in this community that didn't intensely dislike Jurgen. Over and over again we see these characters pressed into the "villian" role, when there are lots of other potential creeps in the canon world.

I agree that some people really want to put M and N into a triangle situation, and so they need a third party, but it could be equally interesting if the third person was actually a potential partner for one of them. I think one of the most successful things about the Helmut arc is that he turned out to be a good guy, and that made N consider all kinds of things about the choices she made and the possibilities of her world. Equally, I think the fact that Elena was an innocent, not the evil daughter of an evil father, made that arc even more affective than it would have been otherwise (especially for connoisseurs of M angst!)
