In a sense, you became a fan of the fandom before becoming a fan of the series.

I've had a very similar experience with the Harry Potter fandom. I haven't read the books, and, having tried several times to give them a shot and not being able to sustain any interest in them, doubt that I ever will. But the fandom -- so huge and wacky and diverse! -- fascinates me, and I do read lots of HP-based stories. But, like you with LFN, my knowledge of what constitutes canon versus what constitutes fanon is probably quite garbled. In a sense, I don't even *care* what canon is, because what draws me to the stories is completely independent of the canon source.

I've run across other "fans of a fandom" before, in various fannish settings, but had never stumbled across one in LFN before. It's a really interesting phenomenon, in my opinion.

If I'm still confused about fanon v. canon, I'll ask about it on the ARD MB. Someone there will straighten me out!!! LOLOL

Now there's a new one for me -- what's "ARD" stand for?
