Hopefully! -- Kashmanik, 16:53:46 07/02/03 Wed
I'm still working busily on it! Man, there's so much in the ep... If it comes off as too fast paced, it's supposed to be! And thats all I'll say!
Everything kinda happens at once, but it throws the Scoobs right into their battle with Proserpexa. So hopefully it'll work out. And I'm even answering why Proserpexa targetted Anya! And Clem gets a guest appearance!
Woo! (Sorry, I'm getting very excited...) :-)

Kash!!! Where's the earthquake!!! -- Linda_Delurked, 08:35:48 07/03/03 Thu
We'd agreed that episode 20 would end with a huge quake that would wipe out Sunnydale! I've sent you my ep, the whole thing is based on that! Where's the quake???

You start your ep with it! -- Kashmanik, 11:49:36 07/03/03 Thu

No! My ep starts with the aftermath! That's in the draft! -- Linda_Delurked, 13:15:36 07/03/03 Thu
It's in all the drafts! It's even in the summary I posted below.
The opening scene is Buffy, Willow and Dawn standing on the bluff, and Proserpexa laughing. The earthquake has happened! Having it at the start of my episode makes no sense!
I thought we'd agreed this ages ago - right from the start. Didn't we set it up so ep 20 closed with a quake and episode 21 opened with what happened after? That's the way I've written the whole episode. We even talked through the details!

Relax.... -- Kashmanik, 13:52:57 07/03/03 Thu
OK, so it might mean adding a bit to the start of your ep, but I don't think thats a huge problem. I thought I read a draft of your ep where the Scoobs see for the first time the damage in Sunnydale, so I assumed the quake happened in your ep.
It's not a big deal, it'll just have to go at the start of yours.

Linda's right... -- anyas_butt_monkey, 14:06:02 07/03/03 Thu
I was expecting a huge plane-shattering earthquake and..... waaah!
To be honest, I think it woulda made more of an impact at the end of Kash's, simply because this isn't as smalltime as the earthquakes in Prophecy Girl and Doomed. This one is going to wreck and ravage Sunnydale completely.

The only thing Linda could do to make it more dramatic now -- Faithsguy, 18:02:09 07/03/03 Thu
would be to have it in the teaser...

Or what if...? Idea! -- Mark, 19:14:11 07/03/03 Thu
Instead of having the earthquake happen real quick in the teaser, what if the earthquake was an ongoing event throughout the entire episode? It could start in the beginning, but not actually finish the shaking until towards the end. You could still have the damage you wanted, but you wouldn't lose the tension.
In my opinion, I think it would be a little aprupt to just have the earthquake happen in the teaser all of the sudden and then stop. I know as a reader I would have NO idea what just happened. It would kind of been a waste of a good event. I vote for starting it at the beginning and keep it running throughout the whole episode.

I agree with Mark - it's more realistic and certainly diff from the norm tv quakes -- BunnyPhobia, 19:19:23 07/03/03 Thu
And that way, as Xander and co are moving through SunnyDale, they can see everything they hold dear destroyed, whilst Buffy is fighing P on the bluff...
Or something.
Hmmm.

Yeah I like that idea, too -- imisstara, 23:54:04 07/03/03 Thu
Instead of the earthquake only lasting one scene, or only happening at the end of episode 20, you could intercut it so it could be the ongoing backdrop for the entire episode 21. I think it would be more dramatic that way, and it won't be too quick.
It doesn't seem like you would have to make too many changes to your script for this to work, Linda. But if it's too much to do then yeah it could still work to do the quake differently. I'm sure none of us would want you to rewrite your entire episode or something.
Loved episode 20, by the way, and I'm sure 21 will be great!!

First off - apologies to Kashmanik -- Linda_Delurked, 09:08:57 07/04/03 Fri
I had a total freak attack yesterday when episode 21 didn't end as I'd expected, and re-reading my posts today I can see they're pretty stroppy. So - sorry! Didn't mean to be like that.
Secondly - I've calmed down. I've taken the meds and everything is cool :)
Thirdly - I love the idea of the quake lasting most of the episode - BUT I can't really see how the action would work out, as for want of a better description , the characters would be bouncing all over the place. I'll probably have more than one quake though.
Fourthly - and this is something I didn't say yesyterday Kash - your ep is cool. It's brilliant. It's incredible. It's fantastically well written and raises the standard even higher than the last few episodes which have been - I think we're all agreed here - truly excellent. In fact, forget Sunnydale. *I'm* quaking at the thought of having to follow you lot!
Okay, I've got an ep to finish. I'll post it here for you all to read before it goes on the board.
