Subject: Foreshadowing...

It's nice to have foreshadowing in your episode... brings us even closer to the ME spirit. But we need to set up some kind of proper season-long foreshadowing. Thats why we need to do this episode-after-episode synopsis thing Linda proposed, so that earlier writers can foreshadow Proserpexa (mentioning of snakes, etc...). Faithsguy did a good job, with the Book of Revelations reference (horsemen...), but we're going to need more. Especially some character related stuff.

If Proserpexa is going to be based on Medusa (and given the fact that the temple Willow raised was adorned in snakes), that gives us a template for snake foreshadowing. Also, animals could be a major theme this season...rats, horses, snakes, anything else?

[> Foreshadowing of events in ep 21 -- Linda_Delurked, 11:12:18 03/27/03 Thu

There's a massive earthquake at the end of episode 20 that pretty much levels Sunnydale, and that thre gang have to cope with in ep 21, so mentioning the earthquake that Willow mentioned in 'Pangs' is probably a good idea. (That would be the one in the 1800's that buried the mission which was discovered at the start of the episode when Xander fell into it.)

References to the enjoining spell from the scoobies battle with Adam would also be helpful, as Willow casts this spell on herself, Buffy and Dawn so they can stand against Plasticdollia.

Other oblique references that writers can throw in if they want to - having to crawl out of a grave, references to being trapped or buried alive, and ephiphanies or moments of clarity (my episode will be called "Clarity") such as Buffy had at the end of season 6.

If you want to make it really oblique, you could have songs playing on the radio during scenes. I'd recommend that one that starts off with the line "I can see clearly now the rain has gone". Another great one would be "Little Earthquakes" by Tori Amos.

Actually, "Little Earthquakes" is a great tune with brilliant lyrics that can be used in any Buffy episode. It even has a line in the second verse which goes "We danced in graveyards with vampires until dawn." The chorus is really good too.

"Oh, these little earthquakes
Here they go again
Oh, these little earthquakes
Doesn't take much to rip us into pieces
Doesn't take much to rip us into pieces"

I think I've wandered several miles off the point, but all these are can be used as foreshadowing.

[> [> Oh! Oh! Forgot the most imortant one! -- Linda_Delurked, 11:29:16 03/27/03 Thu

It would be great if at some point one of the characters, ideally Kennedy, Faith or Buffy, mentions that they spend so much time fighting the bad guys they forget that their job is also to help the good guys. Any simple reference that shows that they get so caught up in battling evil that they forget that there's a town (and world) full of innocent(ish - mostly) people who rely on their protection.

Snapshots of ordinary life in Sunnydale would be great too, anything that underlines how many normal people there are in Sunnydale. It would make the impact of the earthquake much bigger in episode 21.

Of course, there is actually an earthquake in the previous episode, which explains why :)

I liked the episode! I'm gonna post it here, so that people *coughcoughCrumpet* can get an idea of what to work into their episode(s).

I like it, go ahead and post it! Except one thing....

In the "previously" we have Buffy jumping off the tower and it says from "Grave" I meant it to be "the Gift"
