Wow! You have certainly hit the nail on the head with this one. I can identify with and recognise much of what you are talking about. Some very interesting observations you bring up, some of which I think I need to go away with, have a think upon, and maybe post some more.

As for the rest, I have a tape about JWs and mental illness by a Dr. Jerry whatsit or other (can't think of his other name). I also personally know of ex-JWs who have suffered great depression in the WT and didn't get much help from their congregations. Seems like the general way of thinking is: "You are depressed? Get over it!" Friends of mine who are ex-JWs have told me that many are indeed on prozac and have a lot of mental health issues. I think there are probabaly a great number who are on either on the verge of mental illness or have suffered it full blown for years (many times without realising it). As they are suspicious of 'head doctors' (they think they are agents of Satan) they are unlikely to go to them. They are stuck betweeen a rock and a hard place. If only they would turn to Jesus who said:

"Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest" (Matt. 11:28).
