My discussion with Donald here made me think that this would be a good theme for a thread.
What books have you read recently, or are presently reading, that you would like to talk about here? Is there anything that an author has said that has really inspired you, or given you some new and valuable knowledge or insight? Share it here.
What kind of book reader are you? Are you someone who, like Donald, always reads from cover to cover, or are you someone who skims through books, only stopping to zoom in on what you are looking for? Are you a bit of both of these?
Are you maybe, one of those people who have about 5 books on the go all at once? Or someone who starts a book but never seems to get to the end?
I am one of those people who will read some books straight through, but skim others, only stopping to focus in on what I am looking for. I also tend to have at least a couple of books on the go at once.
Books I have read during the past couple of months are:
The Witch who Switched, by Irene Park: Testimony book - A Satanic cult member who becomes a Christian. One of the books I read over the last month to use as part of the critical analysis for my book proposal.
He Came to Set the Captives Free by Rebecca Brown (Don't scream silverfox! ( - ;) Another testimony book (albeit quite controversial), on similar theme to above. Good, but a bit weird and difficult to believe in parts. - please folks DO NOT turn this into another Rebecca Brown thread. I don't think silverfox or I could ever take another dose! I only read this for myself to see what all the fuss was about and to use it for my proposal.
The Siren Call of Hungry Ghosts, A Riveting Investigation, into Channeling and Spirit Guides, by Joe Fisher: A fantastic and fascinating book. I couldn't put it down. Won't go into it here again as I have written a review of it recently anyway at:

What about other Faiths?, Martin Goldsmith. Author explores how the Christian faith relates to the world religions. Good book with some though provoking quotes I will certainly be using in the future.
Evangelicalism and the Future of Christianity, by Alister McGrath. Evangelical scholar, Alister McGrath, looks at the history of and the future of evangelicalism. An academically stimulating book that gives an honest insight into the strengths, weaknesses, highs, lows, of the evangelical movement. Very honest, fair and balanced. One I will be quoting from in future articles.
Fairy Magic, by Rosemary Ellen Guiley. New Age book on spirits, fairies, and other incoporial entities (see other discussion on this board).
Books I am presently reading:
Knowledge that Leads to Everlasting Life (for Donald!). A Jehovah’s Witness book published by the Watchtower Society. Already, I have seen some things in this that will provide useful for future articles.
Practical Wicca, by Christine Seville. Glossy Wiccan book for today’s fluffy bunnies! Not very accurate from what I have read so far. Author says promotes the anachronism that Wicca has been about thousands of years. Also, no mention whatsoever of Gerald Gardner! This is despite the fact that she talks about Wicca’s popularity growing on the backs of Aliester Crowley and Margaret Murray. It’s almost as though the author is deliberately ignoring Gardner totally. I have skimmed ahead of this book, looked in the index – no mention of him. To me, this is a bit like reading a book on Islam with no mention of Mohammed.
I would like to hear what books others here are reading, and what kind of reader you are?
