First off pit bulls were not bred for violence even during te time when dog figting was populer.Certain traits were bred into the bloodlines for purpose of fighting , high pain tolerance, high prey drive, etc. However a quality that was never bred into Pit Bulls was human aggression. Human "aggressive" dogs were undesirable as these dogs required extensive handling prior to and during their fights AND most of these dogs were also family pets so no human aggression was ever tolerated. Dogs that exhibited human aggression were typically killed, meaning that only human friendly lines were perpetuated and desired. You never hear about the good things that pit bulls do like the most decorated army dog which was a pit bull or the two in oklahoma that jumped a fence to help a women that was being atacked by a chow. If anyone really thinks that this ban will protect anyone do some research first and you will find that the most human aggressive dogs are the small ones like the cop that was atacked by the chiluala or the yorkie that broke into the play pen and killed the infant.as far as the pit bull goes the American Temperament Testing Society evaluated 122 dog breeds and found that the American Staffordshire Terrier, a type of pit bull banned in Denver, passed 83.3 percent of the time, just behind the golden retriever (83.6 percent). so if this is true we should ban golden retreivers too right. Instead of taking te time and effort to ban, find and kill these dogs take the time in making the laws harsher for those who mistreat there animal.
