Subject: I got an update yesterday

More than one person has emailed me asking about Angie. (She is one of the 3 NorCal Boxer Rescue dogs needing surgery at the same time.) She was attacked by a family Pit Bull and sustained brutal injuries. She was in vet care for several days, having her wounds tended. Hanna, her foster Mom came every day to be with her and help with the wound care. It was determined the front leg was too badly injured and was amputated. She also has a big chunk missing in the side of her face and another on her body.
Her foster Mom has a toddler and has her hands full.....here's what she said yesterday when I asked about Angie:
"Geeze! Soory but this is as much about my struggle as it is about Angie...but I guess we're pretty entwined by now.
Wednesday was really hard. Honestly I cried most of the day. Overwhelmed with her care (3x daily hot pads and deep massaging of the tissue to get the infection out), my toddler and Angie was on the decline. Angie got a pretty bad infection in her amputation sight and had to have a drain put in (yes she was awake for the procedure. She is just that good!). The Dr.'s put her on another newer antibiotic in conjunction with an addition 10 days of Clavimox. Both of these drugs a VERY expensive almost $100 bucks a script. We also got a few more pain killers (my Mom flipped the bill for that one). Dr. A warned me to watch out for infection since he said he had to get "uncomfortably" close to her infected tissue in order to have enough skin to close her up. Both Dr. Anderson and Dr. Beth Kenyon have been heaven sent with advice and help during her recovery. Beth is the original Dr who contacted us to help Angie...she has also has been doing all the follow up (drains, stitches extra) for FREE! Let's not forget Miss Karen (note from Marlene - Karen is an NCBR board member, a RN and a lawyer) who supports and educates me along the way...and sometimes even makes me laugh.
Beth put in a couple more stitches in her face so now she has about a 2.5 - 3 inch gap/whole, and I'm scheduled to see her tomorrow morning hopefully for some more stitching.
Angie wouldn't eat, so I was buying rotisserie chicken and feeding her by hand, but on Wed I went to the vets and got EN canned, which is what she ate when she stayed there and it worked. She is now eating all by herself! Yippee!
Today is a good day. I took Angie with me all day to run errands, have lunch and visit my husband while setting up a Rotary event (I brought her to turn a few heads and maybe open a few wallets as well). Our big treat was a trip to My Dogs Bakery (a fancy doggy boutique) where I spent an hour finding her the perfect, most beautiful, and soft new necklace and handsome new leash.
Today is much better then Wednesday...even glorious. She is feeling great, able to get around and I'm back to my old self again. No more feeling sorry for myself. I'm adding another mantra to "If Angie can do it, I can do it", I also am saying to myself "take it 3 days at a time" (that was from Dr. A).
Angie continues to be the sweetest dog I've ever met. She has briefly met my two boys (4 legged) and is just fine. Archie was so excited to meet her he looks as though he will wiggle right out of his own skin as he danced on his tippy toes around her. My friends are all lined up this weekend to come and meet the fabulous dog NCBR has rescued and it should be a great weekend.
I can't wait to see what Monday brings (three days from now),
Hannah"
