I think everyone has covered most of the complaints for Mary Sues written by the very young. A couple of people pointed out that the Sues are supposed to be the wisest and most knowledgeable, but often they act extremely unwisely and in a very ignorant way because the author doesn't have a real grasp on what wisdom and knowledge are yet.

But even adults might write Mary Sues. On the Invision board the Wizard's First Rule books were brought up. The two main characters, Kahlan and Richard, are M. S.'s. I actually liked the first few books, but I noticed that because of the main characters' perfection, the author needed to insert artificial conflict into their relationship by making them behave uncharacteristically stupid on occasion. That's one of the pitfalls of Mary Sues. Everything is so easy for them that it gets boring unless the author jumps through hoops to cause them difficulties.

Now if the author had written more realistic characters, there would be room enough for conflict to not require they go ooc to make them interesting.
