make sure when you drain the oil that BOTH drain plugs are opened and the filter changed or drained as well. Upon refilling, only put in 3 quarts and 22 ounces, (U.S. measure). Then after sitting level for awhile on the center stand, one can use the level in the sight gauge as a reference, only!
Using the sight glass will drive a person crazy and often leads to overfilling, which in turn may lead to the oil frothing and allow air to get into the hydraulic valve lash adjusters which causes valve tapping noises. It can also cause sporadic oil leaks.
Shell Rotella 15/40 is one of the preferred oils as it cleans as well as lubricates.
