She didn’t want to answer. She didn’t want him to see her like this. Not like this pathetic creature. Grateful that Zeth had let her alone for a spell, Briallan kept her silence, even as she had picked one of Zeth’s razors from the countertop as water dripped in puddles upon the tiles. Her back to the door, if one bothered to sneak a peak trying to catch a peek of the bathing beauty, they would see only her back and Zeth’s mark upon her flesh.
Why was she doing this to herself? Why? Because, life was driving her mad. She didn’t want to belong to anyone. Not even Zeth. Didn’t she love him? Of course she did and on the verge of being in the unhealthy obsessive way, but this inability to have him was on the verge of maddening. If she couldn’t have him, she didn’t want to belong to him. Well, she did, but in her mind, this was the only way to fix things. Fix them good.
Almost without thinking about the actions her fingers were taking, the razor had come apart slicing the tips of her nimble digits in the process. The pain felt good. It felt right. Like a punishment well deserved. Yet, this wasn’t nearly enough for her. No. She had to free herself from him. Her stained hand reaching around, her pale ivy colored eyes screwed shut as the blade sliced open layers of flesh around his mark. Down past the small of her back, ruby rivers flowed; dripping and swirling with the puddles of water upon the tiles.
Why did she have to let him get to her? Why did she fool herself into keeping the children he didn’t want? Why did she make life so miserable for them all? She could have stayed gone. Briallan could have hid herself from him and not gone back. But did she? Not at all. Zeth kept his hold on her even when she wasn’t anywhere near him.
Another spring trickling down to the ivory flooring and not a tear or cry had been uttered. Briallan was entirely too proud for that and the way she figured it, she didn’t deserve any pity or help from anyone. Let alone Zeth. Why did she have Deangelo bring her here? Was there any way for her to make a plea for insanity? Obviously, Bri wasn’t sane, but she wasn’t insane either. The pain just made it seem so…
