Subject: So there is going to be a one-off special of Sherlock....

Production on the next episode of Sherlock is beginning to swing into operation, and another key element of the behind the scenes team for the one-off special has been revealed - the director.

Douglas MacKinnon, responsible for several episodes of Doctor Who since its return in 2006 - including three episodes in the 2014 series - will helm the episode. The news was revealed by Mackinnon himself on his personal Twitter account. He has also directed episodes of Hartswood Films' Jekyll in 2007, and instalments from both series of the acclaimed BBC Two police drama Line of Duty.

The Sherlock one-off special features both Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss on writing duty, and has now officially entered pre-production ahead of filming in January 2015 with production designer Arwel Wyn Jones in the process of location scouting this week - give him a follow on Twitter to keep an eye on his mysterious journeys!

While there is no confirmed airdate for the special, it is widely presumed to be a Christmas special to air next year.

Sherlock Series 4 itself will film later in 2015.

I hope I live that long!

[> With no "Who" being watched here anymore either, it's feeling rather bleak. -- AurraSing, Monday, November 10, 09:31:27am (d154-20-59-35.bchsia.telus.net/154.20.59.35)

I watch even less TV these days-a few of the prime times and we're slowly working our way through "White Collar" on Netflix but I think I'm not alone in finding the fandom waning with these long gaps between series. I think of them more as movies we will someday see than TV anymore....

Speaking of TV, do you still watch 5-0 anymore? It felt good to see my long held belief about the link between Steve and Wo Fat was not just my imagination after all, HAH!!

[> Yeah, I do... -- Lij, Monday, November 10, 04:20:10pm (adsl-99-102-186-184.dsl.bltnin.sbcglobal.net/99.102.186.184)

That was a good episode.

FRINGE was the last fandom I was involved in. Anymore it doesn't matter to me about discussing episodes. Like you there are very few that I watch. Much of it seems to be on ABC anymore.

3 on Sunday - The Good Wife, Resurrection, and Revenge.

3 on Monday - Sleepy Hollow, The Black List, and Castle.

2 on Tuesday - Marvel's AoS and Person of Interest.

Wednesday is a wash though I try to catch Law & Order: SVU and Nashville (gotta see what happens to the gay guy there)

Thursday is the big night with 5! Vampire Diaries (has me hooked!), Scandal, How To Get Away with Murder, Elementary and Parenthood, which ends this year.

Friday I don't like to miss Grimm, Hawaii Five-0, and maybe Constantine.

Trying to finish out Haven and White Collar as both are in their last season.

I think when a show really inspires you then one generally takes to the Net for a fandom. If I had gotten into one for The Blacklist or Person of Interest I would be there today because they are both so very much engrossing. But I can watch a show without the fandom. And I discuss them every so often with friends and cousins.

But they better not get in the way of me going fishing!!!
