Subject: Relief Organizations

I have volunteered after several hurricanes here in eastern North Carolina with an excellent organization that has already taken several trucks loaded with supplies and volunteers to the Gulf coast. The organization is Hearts with Hands, Inc. It is a non-profit, non-denominational, humanitarian organization based in Asheville NC. You can check it out at their website:

It is best to donate money because they can purchase supplies at a discount, at the time items can be used so the system isn't overloaded with items that they can't use at that time. And this organization does not use your money for elaborate salaries, offices, etc. They use volunteers and stretch every dollar to make it go as far as possible.
