Finally, a Dune forum with brains. Anyway most of you will chew me up for being a fan of the new series, although it is certainly not the original Dune I am overjoyed that there are more Dune books.

SPOILERS for Machine Crusade*****

I must say however that as much as I enjoy reading the new books , Machine Crusade was a world better than the previous Brian and Kevin outings. Many of the plotlines in Machine Crusade took the story in directions I completely did not expect and the revelations have totally made me go back to the original canon to find ties and links that I didnt put together before. In the Butlerian Jihad I was kind of dissapointed because it seemed obvious that Omnius was the 'ancient' enemy described in the original canon. But now I'm not so sure. Maybe it's not Omnius. Maybe it's Erasmus, or perhaps even Agamemmnon, or (laugh) maybe even Seurat. Who knows. I just know that after Butlerian Jihad I was happy to have read another Dune book but unhappy that things seemed so cut and dry. I almost felt like Leto II when he described prescience as being boring. I felt like I knew the future. But with Machine Crusade I feel as if I've gone through my own golden path and a new universe has been opened up.

My only.. and I repeat my only question in the new book is that if Xavier Harkonnen died at the end as speculated (which again I love because I'm just not sure he and Iblis did).. but if they did.. how is it the Harkonnen name lives on? Xavier had four daughters to his wife Octa but no sons. And how is it that a Harkonnen betrays humanity in the next book.. especially a Harkonnen named Abulard when all Xavier had was daughters? (Remember in Dune House Corrino and somewhere in the Dune canon as well.. it is stated that Abulard was the name of the Harkonnen traitor)

Anyway just my two cents.

the Siridar
