Well, like I've said from the beginning. Don't read the books that Brian and Kevin write. It will certainly save those of us who do read them and enjoy them having to read endless complaining from those who don't like them but read them anyway.

Fist off, you were criticizing Brian and Kevin for all the inventions when it wasn't them who did it. It was Frank, who didn't "imply", he actually said instantaneous space travel was created by X at X time. And guess what, he said the same thing about shield technology. So it's really unfair to criticize Brian and Kevin when it was Frank in the first place who didn't "imply" but said.

In addition is it implausible that we have come up with the computer and all the computer driven technology of Satellites, banking, missiles, and are now on the verge of AI all within 50 years? All within one person's lifetime? MAybe it sounds implausible, but its what has happened. Think about it. How about all the advancement in medical technology and procedure just over the past 25 years! It's staggering. Certainly on the magnitude of Space Travel. The combustible engine, cars and then airplanes, all within the last 100 years. Genetic manipulation of plants and crops, and now humans...all within 25 years! What are you talking about!? Of course it's plausible the way FRANK wrote it.

It isn't implausible that instantaneous space travel and shield technology were all developed within the span of 100 years. Not at all. Look at your history my friend. Technological Advancements are usually made in spurts. And besides, they invented sapce travel, but they certainly haven't perfected it with the the whole Spice intoxication thing yet. We also know that the "BAttle of Corrin" the 3rd book in the series takes place like 50 years into the future or something right? That means it will be like over the span of 100 years that space travel was invented and subsequently perfected to the point that they are still using the technoolgy in Dune. Not implausible at all.

And in addition, I'll invoke what you said, Brian and Kevin made no mention of maula pistols, Tleilaxu eyes or gholas, or lasguns being invented for that matter. There are other technoologies in Dune that were invented at different times. But seriously, you have to look at history and inventions, everything in the Butlerian Jihad trilogy is corroborated by trends that take place in the real world. Inventions do not occur gradually over several hundred or thousand years. In fact they occur in brief spurts of flourishing ages, and then usually such golden age periods are followed by long spans of stagnation and reliance on those technologies.

Oh yeah, and I loved Count Fenring and that quirk. If you've heard Tim Curry read those books on audio tape or CD and listen to his masterful performance you'd agree. The hmmming being a secret code was simply a figment of your own imagination.
