Many religions make no distinction begween God the creator of all things and Satan the destroyer. Their belief holds that if there is a single all-powerful Diety from whom all things are derrived; then how could He/She in any way be challenged by a subservient creature that He/She created?

It would be logical to think that the Fremen (and thier descendents) could hold this belief since:

- Zen-Buddism holds a similar belief now; and since the religion of the old Fremen derrived from ZenSuniism (which is an amalgam of Zen-Buddism and Islam).
- The God Emperor was both the Giver and the Taker, the Forgiver and the Punnisher. Any religion derrived from him would most likely have incorperated the ideas of a unified God/Devil role.

Therfore, for the Fremen/Rakians to create confusing (often blurred) distintions between their two names for the giant sandworms should come as no surprise. It is very well possible that the sandworms were considered to be BOTH God and Satan.
