Jung was more than just a pscyhiatrist, he was Freud's golden boy and chosen successor, before they had a falling out and Jung elaborated some of his own theories. We have Jung to thank for the idea of the collective unconcious and the persistance of certain symbols across human cultures (which we see the BG relying heavily on throughout the series.)
