I agree with you. I personally would love to see another Dune series. But COD did not do as well as Dune overall. Though, night one did really well, nights two and three weren't as good in the ratings. Since the cost of making the mini-series' have been fairly high (higher than your average TV show) I'm not exactly sure what types of ratings a mini like COD would need in order to ensure a sequel. tHe only other option that has been kicked around has been that of a regular series. I don't know how good or effective that would be, but its another possibility anyway.
