I think Idaho had a different "soul" in each of his incarnations. the final Idaho ghola- who remembered the lives of most of the gholas before him, likely had those memories in the same way a reverand mother has "other memory."
Maybe the Tielaxu knew more about the human condition than they had let on- the ability to transfer memory into a perfect clone, or ghola, is a type of immortality- but only for everyone involved aside from the donor and clone itself.
They used the process to carry on thier own work, ect, but i doubt that they valued their own individual ghola lives any less because of it.
We 'live on" by birthing and raising children. We still acknowledge that we're each individuals, important, ect...
think of it this way. There's a twin waiting for you whenyoiu turn 80. There's a process that will allow this twin to have all of your memories when you turn 80. that would be cool, I guess, to see another "me" running around - in my prime, when I'm on my way out, but----- it wouldn't be me.
and the twin would know that, too.
