Subject: I understand your reluctance about getting too excited on the current freshmen, although here is my take on it.
In reply to: duq81 's message, "His play in the summer league was very encouraging, as was Talley's. I just don't want to get too excited. Dante Taylor and Aaric Murray were All Americans, and they struggled greatly as freshmen." on Wednesday, October 06, 04:49:41pm

Over the years I have seen some freshmen make a considerable contribution to their college teams and some not so much.IMO,All-American status is usually bestowed based on skills, size and the pedigree of the institution they are playing for. Not insignificantly, they tend to overlook the two traits that usually determine how quickly the transition will take place....their basketball IQ which encompasses the entire mental aspect of the game and their intensity/desire to improve. IMO neither Taylor nor Murray went to their respective schools with those attributes. I don't see that with either McConnell or Talley. Both are very skilled, intelligent and driven. Without significant input from the frosh, this team will be not much better than last year's version. With it, the can win 20 or more.
