Yes, Pas walked out about a week ago and when we locked the door, she called a women's shelter and has been staying there. She hates it there by the way. The police were originally looking into finding ways to help her with her mental illness, but now they seem to be focused on DH (and no, we are not married).

They don't have a case. DH did nothing wrong, and they have no physical or witness evidence to say he did otherwise, because he didn't. But I am leary of the legal system. If the cops want to, they can twist things around to make the innocent look guilty. The only way Pas can legally stay in the country is if DH abused her, so I am thinking that is what they are going for here.

As for the lawyer, first off we can't afford it. Second, we don't know what they are looking to file charges on, so we don't know what kind of lawyer to get. If they are going to say that DH lied on the immigration papers and he didn't intend for her to be his wife, then we need an immigration lawyer. But if it's about alleged spousal abuse, then we need a lawyer who deals in that. And if it has to do with a divorce, we need a divorce laywer.

I really don't think the a DA would go ahead on this, but I have seen stranger things happen. And who are they going to believe, and old white guy who is on his third marriage or his young innocent foreign bride? I don't have complete faith in our legal system, if they are out to get him, they will. I am just hoping that somewhere along the way this will be seen for what it really is... and that is a vengeful result of her bitterness at DH.
