Subject: Xterra for a new driver?????

My husband and I have been looking for a suv for our son who will be driving soon, but also for us to use to lug around big stuff, transport stuff to dorms, etc. Do you xterra owners think this suv is too much to handle for a new driver (16 yrs. old)? Our 2 sons are a year apart so it will eventually be their car to share, but I am concerned about its size and power. Has anyone gotten into an accident with it? How is its reliability? I am looking at it because it sits high off the ground, has good visibility and just seems heftier than the rav4 and honda crv that we are also looking at. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!! Thx
