Subject: xterra 2007 4x2

Just purchased an 07 xterra 4x2 and hoping you guys have some info. Not a hardcore offroader, but did want some offroad capability. It has the electronic limited slip. Will this work on some mild off road excursions? It is an off road vehicle with the truck frame and clearance. Just wondering what my off road limitations are. Crawling underneath, I see the gas tank is unprotected. It is mounted high as everthing else is. Seems to made of plastic but sounds hollow with a full tank of gass. Is it double layered to protect from breakage? The only skid plate is under the engine. Transmission has no skid plate. Just looking for opinions on the undercarriage venerabilities and the ability of the 4x2 off road. Thanks in advance.
