Hello. My name is Gary Friedland and I lived in Canarsie from 1957(I was 7 then) until 1975. I remember an Army complex built close to Paerdegat Basin and a few yards from the Belt Parkway. It was removed in the early 60's. I think there were Quonset huts there. There were several Quonset huts about 2 miles away in a field across from where PS 272 was eventually built 9about 1956). These huts were a short distance to Fresh Creek.The Army may keep records of where these establishments were. You may try to find it on the internet, or try to find some records in Army archives. Hope this helps.

Hi I grew up in the quonset huts 1947-1952-3
There were two "villages" The one we lived in was N. of the Belt Pkwy and S. of Seaview Ave. East of Rockway Pkwy.
We live on 19th Lane [339B] The other "village" was West of the large park on Seaview and Remsen Ave. Later that area became a Battery of AA guns [I believe in the late 50's 60's.
We moved to the housing project on 108 st. [620] when they were open. I attended 242 two quonset hut schools, one in each of the two areas, on to 115 235 and graduated from 114 in 1955. On to SJ Tilden.
I have recently researched and have a picture of the quonset huts taken from the air showing the Pier belt Pkwy and the "village where I grew up.
I'd be happy to e-mail it to you.
We use to walk to Ave. L and the Canarsie movie .25 cents.
There was also a Trolley Line we took from the BMT down Rockway Pkwy almost to the pier.
