Hi I grew up in the quonset huts 1947-1952-3
There were two "villages" The one we lived in was N. of the Belt Pkwy and S. of Seaview Ave. East of Rockway Pkwy.
We live on 19th Lane [339B] The other "village" was West of the large park on Seaview and Remsen Ave. Later that area became a Battery of AA guns [I believe in the late 50's 60's.
We moved to the housing project on 108 st. [620] when they were open. I attended 242 two quonset hut schools, one in each of the two areas, on to 115 235 and graduated from 114 in 1955. On to SJ Tilden.
I have recently researched and have a picture of the quonset huts taken from the air showing the Pier belt Pkwy and the "village where I grew up.
I'd be happy to e-mail it to you.
We use to walk to Ave. L and the Canarsie movie .25 cents.
There was also a Trolley Line we took from the BMT down Rockway Pkwy almost to the pier.

I moved to Canarsie in 1943 at 6months old. We lived on Ave. N & east 91st si I grew up a couple of blocks from where you lived.

There were Quonset huts but also white apartment buildingd with black roofs. One story with the apartments side by side. I seem to remember 4 or 5 apts. per building.

I remmeber they started to take them out in the mid to early 50's. We used to play in the abandoned buildings.
After the building were gone there were go karts raced on the blacktop roads.

What a time it was & what a geat place to grow up.
