First off, I assume you are not THE Dave Miller (http://www.maltamedia.com/sports/articles/2004/article_2967.shtml)

Events over 30k may warrant use of a bottle or other hydration system. For 40k I use one small bottle. I raced a 54 mile TT last weekend and drank three bottles. Events 20k and under will probably not need water.
