Subject: Inherently Evil?

In an earlier post, someone had claimed that vampires are inherently evil. How is it that humans have come to this conclusion? If you look at humans, we feed upon other animals and plants like vampires feed upon humans (only most of us are lucky not to be bothered with actually killing them). We're capable of evil - or of even being a monster.

Is the creation of vampires in mythical lore simply another attempt by humans to put themselves on a pedestal or to justify some belief that we're better than other living beings?
